Locale 265 in conjunction with American Legion Oxon Hill Post 248 held a fundraiser for VL-265’s Nurses’ Training
Scholarship Fund. Beginning at 4:00 PM. fried, baked, and barbecued chicken with
baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni, and pasta salad dinner was served buffet style prepared and provided by Post 248 and their
Auxiliary. . Deserts of cake, cookies, creampuffs were provided by the Femmes of Cabane 265. Music was provided by Bill Mendez
a one-man band that provided a good mix of country western, classic rock, and Hawaiian music.
Door Prize and 50-50 raffles and other drawings were available for fun and fund raising. The committee
began working on the project last October. The project was approved at the March Promenade. Flyers were created and distribute
to American Legion Posts in Prince Georges County and to the VFW Post in Oxon Hill.
Committee members are: ‘Doc’ Dick Eldredge and Chefs Jake Jakubowski, and Steven Olcott. The committee
arranged for the use of the Post’s hall, set the hall up, cooked the dinner and cleaned up afterwards.. When all
was said and done 82 dinners were sold and a total of $1030.00 was donated to Voiture Locale 265’s Nurses Training Scholarship.
This amount will provide a scholarship for one nursing student for a year or two nursing students for a semester. A special
